Mount Rainier
(Tohoma) always struck me a bit like the moon- a spirit that
watches over us. At 14,410" it can be seen as far away
as Corvallis Oregon, and the North Shore of Vancouver BC.
As
a young person my sport was running- and once, to train, we
were literally driven to Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, (before
the winter snow) and told to run straight up the mountain, and
then back down. It would have been the first time I had seen
Rainier from the top of Crystal- i.e. looking West.
