Ibiskos (2024)

Last year, our first trip to Hawaii- to the Big Island, I saw Saffron Finches for the first time. And during a trip to the Lavahola Cacao Farm in Hilo, there was a Hibiscus blooming, so loud, and so fleeting that I had to take it in. I pulled over to the side of the road in the rain. This piece grew from that experience.

The Saffron Finch- (called "canario de tejado" or "roof canary" in Venezuela) - but is neither; it is is a tanager from South America. € First complete canvas from the new house/studio..
